One of the problems we see here a lot are people who upgraded, then found out some of their programs or plugins or extensions no longer worked, and it made their computer run slow or hinky. If the developer doesn't have any updates for it that allows you to continue using it, uninstall them. Also, I'd go through and check all your 3rd party apps, plugins, and browser extensions to make sure they'll work with El Capitan and Safari 9.0.3. The first thing you need to do is make a backup of your system, either through Time Machine or a program like CarbonCop圜loner, because in the event something goes wrong (which would be rare, but you never know), you'll be able to bring your system back to what it was before you upgraded. What I can say is that I had no problems upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan, so for me, it was a smooth transition.

We can't tell you if should upgrade or not, that's a decision you have to make on your own. If you have done so, has it been a smooth transition? Also, would doing so allow me to sync my desktop and iPad, specifically with regard to iCal? Also, will I still be able to operate my Quicken 2006? What benefits might I get by upgrading? Thanks in advance for your input. I would like opinions on whether I should upgrade to Captain. I have an iMac and am currently operating on 10.6.8. When opened, they always open the same data file, so that this data file is always the most complete and up to date data file.

That is how I use Quicken 2007 in my various partitions. My advice is that you only keep one data file for either use, Snow Leopard or the upgraded OS X.

You can use this version in both of your partitions and you should install it in both places.

It will open your Quicken 2006 data file directly, and you should archive a copy of your Quicken 2006 data file beforehand.

Once you install it, use the internet upgrade feature to upgrade it to version 16.2.3 which, as of this writing, will run in Snow Leopard through El Capitan. Use the Chat feature in the Intuit Support website to order "Quicken 2007 for Lion" for $15. If you upgrade without a partition or external drive, you will destroy your existing Snow Leopard environment.īe sure in any event you make at least one backup before upgrading. Then you can "dual-boot" into Snow Leopard or the upgraded OS X as needed. I just strongly suggest that when you decide to upgrade, you should use Disk Utility to partition your hard drive, or add an external drive and install the OS X upgrade there. And then doublecheck its properties to make sure it still links back to the location of Quicken.Others will reply to you about the pros and cons of El Capitan. When you find, for example, the Quicken icon, you can drag it to your desktop. Search for them in the Windows Cortana search box with “*.ico” - but try to limit which folders you’re searching, otherwise you will pull up every single icon image (all those images displayed in every single folder). Microsoft Windows icon image files typically end with “.ico”. If that doesn’t work, try to find where your icons live. Follow the same steps above but after “View,” select “Auto arrange icons.” Or they may have moved off your screen, which can happen to people using more than one monitor. Then select “View” and make sure “Show desktop icons” is checked.

To make them viewable again, use your mouse to right-click a blank area on your Windows desktop.

But I lost these icons after the conversion and can’t figure out how to re-create them on the desktop with Windows 10. Previously, I was able to establish desktop icons for frequently used programs (Quicken, Word, Excel, etc.). Q: We converted from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few months ago.
